Curriculum for Wales is a holistic curriculum that provides many opportunities to make links across the curriculum and Areas of Learning.

There are excellent, manageable ways that we can make links between the Mathematics and Numeracy and LLC AoLE. Helen Bowen and Lynwen Barnsley will be joining forces to explore how we can use literacy skills in a meaningful way to develop and improve mathematical understanding, particularly reasoning in maths.

Objectives

Over the course of 2 x 1 hour sessions we will explore the links and where the AoLEs naturally overlap, and we will also consider:

• Where are the opportunities for developing literacy skills in maths?
• What are the good speaking and listening and reading strategies that help make sense of mathematics?
• Do you have a toolkit to support talk in mathematics and numeracy? Is it consistent? Is it progressive?
• How can speaking and listening and reading support and improve the development of reasoning skills?
