An Arts Integration Workshop for Educators

November 16, 2021 @ 8:00 am December 1, 2021 @ 6:00 pm UTC-11.5

About this event

Workshop Description: Integrating Drama with Math and Science may seem the unlikeliest of endeavors, but there are key alignments between the art form and the two core disciplines.  The characters in a story have unique characteristics and interrelationships; in a similar vein, numbers, shapes, operations, properties, elements, landforms, simple machines, and other mathematical and scientific concepts can be seen as groups of unique and interrelated characters, a ‘cast’ that can be brought to life through Drama.  In this workshop we will go beyond specific problem-solving to think about how a series of interconnected, very easy-to-implement Drama strategies –Sociometrics, Characterization, Hot Seat, and Improvisation – can strengthen visualization, awareness of multiple pathways, and appreciation of underlying structures and patterns that are the building blocks of Mathematical and Scientific thinking.
