Curious about careers in industry research, science policy, consulting, and more? When you consider the pros and cons of different career paths, you might be wondering things like:

  • Would this workplace feel like a safe and welcoming community?
  • (How) can you represent the needs of your community at work?
  • What is it like to advocate for your rights and interests at work?
  • What does it look like for an employer to promote and facilitate recruitment and retention for employees of color?
  • How can an employer support your professional development?

Come meet professionals of color (including UCSF alums) working in a variety of careers, to hear their answers to these questions. They’ll also discuss how they got their jobs, and what advice they have for students and postdocs interested in similar career paths. The first half of the event will be a panel/Q&A, and the second half will give you a chance to talk to the guests in small “speed mentoring” groups.

Agenda:

Welcome and Introduction (4-4:15 p.m.)

Panel Discussion/Q&A (4:15-4:45 p.m.)

  • No active participation is required for this part of the event; however, you are invited to participate by asking questions.

Speed Mentoring (4:45-5:30 p.m.): Conversations with guests in breakout rooms

  • Three 15-minute rotations in small groups
  • No preparation is required; however, please consider in advance which of the guests you’d like to speak with.
  • An OCPD career counselor will also be available to answer general questions about preparing for careers.

We hope to see you there!
